Anne-Marie’s keys to success as Summer Surf Girl

Point Lookout surf lifesaver Anne-Marie Westby has a busy road ahead as she takes on the role of Surf Life Saving Queensland’s newest ambassador after being named 2016 Summer Surf Girl.

As part of her winner’s prize, Anne-Marie was presented with a new Holden Spark from Zupps Mt Gravatt Holden & HSV on Thursday.

“Receiving the keys to my new Spark was very exciting, and you certainly won’t miss me driving around!” Anne-Marie said.

“This will definitely make it easier to get to all my new commitments as the 2016 Summer Surf Girl, which will include mentoring young volunteer surf lifesavers and promoting women in the Surf Life Saving movement.”

Zupps Mt Gravatt Holden & HSV dealer principal Jordi Blanco was pleased to present Anne-Marie with her keys.

“We congratulate Anne-Marie on her outstanding work, and trust she is enjoying her new Spark,” Mr Blanco said.

“We look forward to many years ahead with a successful partnership with the Summer Surf Girl program and Surf Life Saving Queensland.”

Anne-Marie was announced winner at a Gala Ball held at Jupiters Gold Coast on Saturday 21 May, beating six other young women from around the state. She raised $76,106.16 for her surf life saving club, with the seven entrants raising a collective total of $337,115.94.

SLSQ chief operating officer and chairman of the judging panel George Hill said Anne-Marie was chosen based on her fundraising initiatives, commitment to community education and surf lifesaving knowledge, and will now begin her year as an official ambassador for SLSQ.

“Anne-Marie was really the standout throughout all aspects of the final judging, demonstrating her commitment to lifesaving and to the Summer Surf Girl program,” Mr Hill said.

“We are confident that Anne-Marie will take on her role over the next 12 months as an ambassador for surf lifesaving with the same passion and commitment she demonstrated during the program. SLSQ looks forward to working with Anne-Marie over the next year.”

This year marked the 52nd year of Summer Surf Girl, which has become one of SLSQ’s largest and most enduring club-based fundraising initiatives.
