Following the sudden passing of former champion ironman Dean Mercer, surf lifesavers from across the country are invited to the Gold Coast next Friday to celebrate his action-packed 47 years as one of Australia’s greatest ironmen and most loved lifesavers.
The Service details to celebrate Dean’s life are as follows:
Friday, 8 September 2017
Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre (296 Nerang- Broadbeach Rd, Carrara, QLD)
At the request of the Mercer family, all attending clubs are urged to bring your March Past Standards for the guard of honour and to wear your club caps and club uniforms.
Dean certainly left his mark on Surf Life Saving, right around Australia and was a member of six clubs, starting at Austinmer, before a celebrated career at Thirroul in the Illawarra; moving to Maroochydore and onto Mooloolaba on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast and then the major move to the Gold Coast, joining Northcliffe before finally settling at Kurrawa.
Following the ‘Celebration For Dean’ guests are invited to join the Mercer family for light refreshments upstairs at the Gold Coast Sports And Leisure Centre and then afterwards at Kurrawa Surf Club from 4:30pm.
