Currumbin defend their title at Queensland Pool Rescue Champs

Gold Coast’s Currumbin has taken out this year’s Queensland Pool Rescue Championships, held across two days this weekend at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

More than 400 surf lifesavers from across the state lined up across the two days of competition, taking their patrol and rescue skills from the beach to the still-water as they battled it out in a range of pool-based events including obstacle swims, line throws, tube swims and manikin rescues.

Entering as defending championships, Currumbin produced a number of strong performances to finish on 520 points to record a comfortable victory ahead of Sunshine Coast rival Maroochydore (350.5 points). Northcliffe and Sunshine Beach finished in a tie for third place, both on 282 points.

It was a similar story in the handicapped point score, with Currumbin taking the overall win ahead of Maroochydore and Kurrawa.
