Mackay Community to benefit from John Villiers Trust Grant
Surf lifesavers at Eimeo Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) will now be able to perform their community service more effectively with the club recently receiving the delivery of a new mobile patrol trailer provided to the club as part of a John Villiers Trust grant.
Eimeo SLSC Director of Surf Sports Duncan Sandford said that the mobile patrol trailer will enable volunteer surf lifesavers to conduct their patrols in a more efficient manner, with all of the equipment being able to be stored in the new trailer for easy access. The new trailer will also enable a patrol area to be set up at one of the adjoining beaches if required.
“Prior to receiving this trailer, our volunteers had to transport patrol equipment for the first aid room and the gear shed to the beach to set up patrols. Now, all of the equipment is stored in the new patrol trailer and is immediately on hand in the event of an incident or rescue at the Eimeo beach,” Mr Sandford said.
“The community relies on our volunteers to provide safer beaches for tourists and residents and the support that our service will receive from the mobile patrol trailer will greatly contribute towards fulfilling this.”
The mobile patrol trailer will be used to transport equipment to patrol areas along the beach, as well as support the use of other essential equipment such as inflatable rescue boats and emergency first aid.
Playing an important role in beach safety, the patrol trailer will also provide a highly visible location of the safe swimming area and a shaded first aid point for lifesavers to treat the public, as well as an accessible point to display and communicate public safety information.
“This trailer will benefit the wider Mackay community and visitors to our region as our surf lifesavers will be enabled to provide a safer environment for visitors, and ultimately, aim to reduce the number of water incidents each year,” Mr Sandford said.
“We thank the John Villiers Trust for this grant, which will provide a great benefit to the community for many years to come.”
Eimeo SLSC is Queensland’s newest club, having been established in the year 2000, and is situated on 400m-long Eimeo Beach, 10km outside of Mackay township. The club has a wide patrolling area, servicing the northern beaches of Mackay, with roving patrols at Bucasia Beach, Sunset Bay and Dolphin Heads.
