Dicky Beach surf lifesaver Caitlin Knight has a busy road ahead as she takes on the role of Surf Life Saving Queensland’s newest ambassador after being named 2014 Jupiters Summer Surf Girl.
Cailtin was announced both winner and highest fundraiser of the program at a Gala Ball held at Jupiters Hotel & Casino on Saturday 17 May, beating 22 young women from around the state in its 50th anniversary year.
As part of her winner’s prize, Caitlin was today presented with a new Suzuki Alto GL by Suzuki Auto Co. general manager Adam Le Fevre.
“Receiving the keys was very exciting as I’ve never had a new car before,” Caitlin said.
“This will definitely make it easier to get to all my new commitments as the 2014 Jupiters Summer Surf Girl, which will include mentoring volunteer surf lifesavers and promoting women in the surf lifesaving movement.”
Caitlin raised the highest individual total for her surf lifesaving club – an impressive $128,487.11 – with the 23 entrants raising a collective total of $882,866.82 for their clubs.
SLSQ chief operating officer and chairman of the judging panel George Hill said Caitlin was chosen based on her fundraising initiatives, commitment to community education and surf lifesaving knowledge, and will now begin her year as an official ambassador for SLSQ.
“Caitlin was really the standout throughout all aspects of the final judging, demonstrating her commitment to lifesaving and to the Jupiters Summer Surf Girl program,” George said.
“We are confident that Caitlin will take on her role over the next 12 months as an ambassador for surf lifesaving with the same passion and commitment she demonstrated during the program. SLSQ looks forward to working with Caitlin over the next year.”
Caitlin thanked her club and friends for their support throughout the program.
“I am truly humbled and overwhelmed. It has been nothing short of an amazing, life-changing and motivating experience. Thank you to Dicky Beach SLSC for your support, you are my family!” Caitlin said.
“To my fellow workmates, you have been so supportive of my Jupiters Summer Surf Girl journey and this has been an important aspect to my ultimate success. To everyone who has shared this journey with me, thank you!”
This year marked the 50th year of Summer Surf Girl, which has become one of SLSQ’s largest and most enduring club-based fundraising initiatives. It is also the 20th year in partnership with Jupiters Hotel & Casino.
