Queensland Country Representative Team named following North Aussies

The Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) North Australian Championships were held in Mackay over the weekend, with tough competition and great results culminating in the naming of the Queensland Country U13-U17 Representative Team for 2013.

Competitors came from Port Douglas in the north to Hervey Bay in the Wide Bay Capricorn region to compete for their Club in events over three days, with Cairns Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) named the overall pointscore winner, followed by Ellis Beach SLSC in second and Arcadian SLSC in third.

SLSQ’s Wide Bay Capricorn Regional Manager and carnival coordinator Craig Holden said the three days of the carnival, from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 October, proved competitive for the participants and entertaining for the spectators.

“We had over 500 competitors at Mackay’s Harbour Beach, with great weather and really strong performances by our competitors ensuring that the weekend was an overall success,” Craig said.

“The results reflect the strength of surf sports competitors in the northern half of the state, with a really strong U13-U17 Queensland Country Team selected.”

The Queensland Country Team, including the age brackets of Under 13, Under 14, Under 15 and Under 17, and both male and female teams, includes over 60 surf life saving athletes from clubs in the North Queensland, Northern Barrier and Wide Bay Capricorn Branches.

“As you would expect following the results of the North Aussies, clubs like Ellis Beach SLSC and Aracdian SLSC are well represented in the Queensland Country Team, but we also have competitors from the likes of Emu Park SLSC, Townsville Picnic Bay SLSC and Eimeo SLSC,” Craig said.

The U13-U17 Queensland Country Team will now compete at the Queensland Interbranch Championships on the Gold Coast on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 November.
