North Burleigh wins IRB State Championships
Gold Coast’s North Burleigh have reigned supreme at this year’s Queensland IRB State Championships, held at Townsville across two days from June 28-29.
Strong performances across the Championships saw the club finish on 111 points, well ahead of Kurrawa in second place (68 points) and Kawana Waters in third (55 points).
The Championships saw more than 300 competitors from across the state hit the water and battle it out across two days of high-octane racing.
Hosted by Townsville Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Club, the Championships marked the first time the state’s pinnacle sporting event in IRB racing had been held in Townsville.
North Burleigh also tasted success in the handicapped point score, finishing ahead of Kawana Waters and a combined North Barrier Branch team.
