Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) today announced the upcoming retirement of North Queensland regional manager Col Sparkes.
Mr. Sparkes has had a long association with Surf Life Saving including being a Life Member of Cairns SLSC, the North Queensland Branch and Surf Life Saving Queensland.
His enormous amount of dedication and extensive knowledge will be greatly missed said SLSQ’s chief executive officer John Brennan.
“Col is and always will be a much respected member of SLSQ. He has not only been a great manager, but also a great mentor to all of those involved in surf lifesaving, especially for those in the North Queensland region.”
“He has an immense amount of knowledge on the issues that affect the northern beaches and he has always put the safety of the public first.”
“We will forever be grateful for his dedication on working towards our mission of zero preventable deaths in Queensland’s public waters”. Mr Brennan said.
Mr. Sparkes will continue to be an active member of Cairns SLSC and will still be out patrolling the beach on weekends.
“I will always have a passion for Surf Life Saving, but now I do look forward to having that passion in the background. I am looking forward to taking time to travel in the next year.”
Mr. Sparkes will officially retire at the end of July.
