It’s not every day the Prime Minister of Australia drops by for a visit!
Yesterday morning Noosa Heads Surf Life Saving Club rolled out the red and yellow carpet and welcomed Australian Prime Minister (and volunteer surf lifesaver!) the Honourable Tony Abbott MP along with Deputy Prime Minister the Honourable Warren Truss MP to the club.
The gentlemen toured club facilities and spent time with volunteers and nippers to talk about all things surf lifesaving and beach safety.
Noosa Heads SLSC was recognised by their VIP guests for its work on the beach and out in the community resulting in being named Surf Life Saving Australia National Club of the Year 2013, in addition to its ground-breaking Seahorse Nippers program which was awarded Surf Life Saving Australian National Community Program of the Year 2014.
The visit also highlighted the vital support from the Australian Government to Surf Life Saving across the country.
Through the Beach Safety Equipment Fund, the Government has pledged to provide Australian Surf Life Saving Clubs with $8 million of additional funding over the next five years to purchase vital safety equipment.
That equates to an additional $1.6 million per year or, on average, approximately $5,000 per year to each of Australia’s 311 Surf Life Saving Clubs until 2018.
