Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) has announced it will relocate all water events in the under-11 and under-12 age divisions to North Kirra for tomorrow’s third and final day of competition at the Queensland Youth Championships.
SLSQ sport manager Stuart Hogben said the decision had been made following a review of forecast surf conditions tomorrow.
“It’s disappointing that we’ve needed to disrupt competition but, as always, the safety of our competitors and officials is the number one priority,” he said.
“Conditions are expected to pick up slightly tomorrow and, while it still looks suitable for the older age groups, we thought it might prove too challenging for the younger competitors.
“North Kirra is a protected beach, and will be calmer and more suitable to the skill level of our younger competitors.
“Event organisers have been monitoring conditions around the clock, and the decision to shift competition is a clear demonstration of our commitment to protecting the safety and wellbeing of our members competing this weekend.
“We thank all competitors and team managers for their understanding, and we remain committed to providing updated information as it arises,” he said.
